Editing HELP!!!!!!!!

I am in dire need of an editing program. I have looked at a couple and they are very expensive.

Does anybody know any that are very cheap/free, have an copy they would be willing to sell, or make a copy so I may "Evalute" the program.

Any help would be muchly appresheated

I am new to this forum but foresaw this movement 10 years ago when I bought my first camera. I use Video Wave 3 but unless you are in post production or against a time limit, keep in mind that as a rule of thumb many editing programs are only as good as the person using it.
